The goal of this course is to provide you with a quick but solid introduction to a theoretical foundations of machine learning.

The target audience for this course is Graduate Students completing a PhD or MPhil in Economics, and professionals working in central banks and international institutions in research.

Choose to follow the Econometrics Pathway to deepen your knowledge of Econometrics with courses in Treatment Effects (morning session) and Machine Learning (afternoon session). Or mix and match, choosing different morning or afternoon sessions from our other Pathways: Applied or Macroeconomics.

Become critical consumers of machine learning research, including an understanding when new methods might or might not be useful for empirical work in economics

Develop your research agenda around importing ideas from Machine Learning into economic and econometric theory

Be able to speak to the machine learning literature, contributing ideas from economics

如何申请

There are limited numbers available for each course, apply early to avoid disappointment.

To be enrolled on one of our courses, you must go through the application process.

Please fill out the application form and include the details of which course you are applying for. This form will also ask you for a brief summary of your academic and professional experience to date. At the end of the application form, you will find the link to pay for the application deposit (£50), which will be deducted from the total course fees in the case that your application is successful.

Once you have filled in the application form and paid the deposit, our tutors will consider your application. Following this, we will be in touch to update you on whether your application was successful and for further steps.

Students have the option to select two courses if they want to: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Tuition fees are the same whether they choose to take one or two courses.

Please note we can only accept payment for the summer school via MasterCard, Visa credit card, Maestro or Visa debit card. As part of your application, you are required to pay a £50 application deposit, which will be deducted from the course payment in case of a successful application.

The Summer School will be held in person, in the Department of Economics, Oxford. For those unable to attend in person, the sessions will also be available live-streamed via Zoom.
