At SDU, we develop novel chemical methods that enable efficient preparation of important molecules with the potential to impact our life. Our scientists working in the area of medicinal chemistry study the structure and function of the most important biomolecules, including nucleic acids, peptides, proteins, sugars, and many other biomedically important molecules that play key roles in human health and disease.

Our goal is to give students leading competences in biomedical research so that they are well prepared for independent work in medical research and development. The programme leads to a Master of Medical Science, with a major in Biomedicine. Teaching takes place in a research environment at the Biomedical Research Centre in Lund and all teachers are also active researchers.

This is a cross-disciplinary programme with a global perspective. It provides students with evidence-based knowledge and a toolkit for conducting research, policy-making and fieldwork. The faculty has substantial experience from a range of disciplinary and geographical contexts and the diversity of the student body contributes to a stimulating learning environment. As one student expressed it: “The class and teaching are a microcosm of the global context we’ll face in work-life". Alumni are currently employed at a variety of institutions such as national health ministries, UNICEF, the WHO and various NGOs. In addition, many are researchers at top-ranked universities.
