Concerns about global environmental change have never been greater, and as technology evolves and the world’s population increases, greater demands are placed on Earth’s limited resources. Graduates from our internationally renowned Geology programme obtain highly relevant subject-specific as well as transferable skills that are necessary for tackling some of our major societal challenges, either through academic research or through employment in private companies, governmental structures and NGOs.

The programme provides you with the opportunity to acquire an advanced level of theoretical and practical knowledge and skills within the fields of analytical, organic, organometallic, bioinorganic and coordination chemistry. Through a combination of advanced courses and a Master’s degree project or projects, you are given the opportunity to specialise in the fields mentioned. Studies build on a previous grounding in chemistry and enable you to develop the ability to apply independent ideas to issues and problems in chemistry or its neighbouring fields.

This programme enables you to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in complex issues within the areas of environmental sciences, physical geography and climate change. You will learn methods and techniques for measurements and collecting data. You will also gather substantial experience using different tools and methods commonly used by professionals for analysis of environmental data, together with skills for presenting and communicating results and conclusions for different audiences. After successfully completing the programme, you will be an expert within a number of different fields, such as climate and water issues, nature conservation and international development, and work with issues relating to assessment, analysis, management and development of the environment and natural resources in a long-term sustainable perspective. Naturally, you could also pursue a career in research.

This programme connects fundamental research with its applications and integrates genetics, gene technology, cell biology, molecular biology and molecular biotechnology. The common basis is within molecular genetics, which is the discipline that explains how the information in the genes is expressed and how it can give rise to various traits in an organism. Emphasis is put on genetic mechanisms underlying disease, genetic mapping, molecular genetic techniques and diagnostic methods. Training in entrepreneurship and processes of innovation and commercialisation in the molecular biotechnology field provides a fundamental base for careers in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. A majority of the graduated students continue with PhD studies, often within the biomedical research field.

Human Geography covers a wide range of topics from environmental and landscape changes to planetary urbanisation and economic crises. The scope of the subject is such that it will give you an excellent scientific base that can easily be combined with other academic subjects. The programme aims to provide you with understanding of the spatial dimensions of social, economic, cultural and environmental processes and their importance for welfare and living conditions in various geographical contexts. Studies in human geography prepare you for a career in physical planning, environmental issues, urban development, landscape changes or economic development.
